Korea 2004

On 28th June Instructors from Dorset Taekwondo Association went to South Korea. For some it was their first visit, whilst others had been several times. Unlike previous visits there was no specific tests or courses. This visit was to train, visit friends and have a holiday.

We were very fortunate that Master Na had agreed to accompany us (and look after us) for the duration of our trip. We will be forever in his debt - he worked very hard. He was our tour guide; translator; driver (he drove over 1500km in our 10 days); oh and he is our Taekwondo Master!

It would take pages to write about everything we did but a few of the highlights are summerised below.

  • We met with our good friend master Dong Jin Bae in Pucheon. We trained at his dojang and enjoyed his hospitality.

  • We had a Private tuition in the Kukkiwon with Grandmaster Lee

  • We visited Master Kim at our sister club (Korea Bournemouth Taekwondo) in Pusan

  • Master Nas father worked for the WTF. Therefore we were honourred and privalaged that he took us to meet many iimportant officials form the WTF, Kukkiwon and KTA.

  • We trained at Lira High School. This high school in Seoul has been ranked Korean high school champions 12 times in the last 15 years. They have produced countless world and olympic champions. The training was increadably hard and we only did one 3 hour session. These high school students train like this for 5 hours a day, 6 days a week! Is it any wonder they are the best? Unfortunately, no photos.

  • We also had a lot of fun going to Lotte World. (The Korean equivalent of Disney); we went into the mountains and over to the east sea; we went to Chungchong to meet the British Team who were competing in the open competition; we went to Master Nas University and met 2 of the British Olympic team who were there training etc..
