On the 12th November 2006 Dorset Taekwondo Association hosted its 9th Tournament in the last 5 years. With 173 Players it was one of the smallest. This was probably due to a busy competition schedule with the Irish Open being the week before and the British Championships being a week after.

We cut the competition down from the usual 3 rings to 2 rings to ensure the crowd could fully appreciate the matches. The competition started 30 minutes late due to the large number of competitors who did not make their weight and therefore last minute adjustments needed to be made to the draw. (This is one of the advantages of Taekoplan - the draw can be done right up to the last minute)

Since the competition was 'friendly' several new judges and referees were given the opportunity to gain experience in a competition environment. The score system (ringmaster) was set for 4 judges as required in WTF competition. In my opinion this makes it slightly harder to score. 3 out of 4 judges needing to agree, and press the button within one second of each other gets difficult towards the end of the day when the judges concentration waivers.

There were several notable performances from Dorset TKD members. Sergio Dumbrava (Dorset TKD) won the 3 fights in the Adult Novice -78kg. He won the final with a KO.

The Dan grade categories were small but very competitive. The Adult -72kg Category contained 7 competitors. Despite a strong field it was won fairly easily by our (not so old coach) Matthew Pike.

The team trophy was narrowly won by the hosts Dorset Taekwondo (107 points) with the UTF coming in second with 104 points.
